I think that I could use concept mapping in the classroom to give an overview of a whole chapter on a topic, or as review before a test to get all of the main ideas out. I think that my students could use the mapping as a way to organize their thoughts for papers and projects and also as a way to study for quizzes or tests. I think that visual learning is very valuable to enhance learning because many students are visual learners, and the students that are not visusal learners will get extra review on the topic. It will also teach students some valuable organizational skills, and teach them yet another way that they can use technology to help them with their studies.
I'm a visual learner myself, and making such things as concept maps have enhanced my learning throughout my years in school, so yes, I firmly believe this will help students. By having the students create their own concept maps through Inspiration, this will further enhance their learning and it will help them make connections to the material. Students will also benefit from such an activity because they will be able to remember the information better and for a longer amount of time. After going over Inspiration today, I am planning on including a concept map activity in a lesson plan that is due soon! :) So, needless to say, I really liked the program!
I think that the concept mapping is something that would be very valuable in the classroom. This would of been something that would have helped me out in highschool, because we used concept maps all the time, and this method is definately a lot easier. I think that since the students are able to pick their own pictures and use their own ideas through inspiration, it will help them be more involved in concept mapping, and it will also help understand the subject better. It is something that can also help them organize ideas before they write a paper, or when they are studying for tests. So I would definately use this in my classroom.
Concept mapping is a wonderful tool that teachers can teach students how to use. By using concept maps to plan for papers, reports, and projects, students can easily organize their thoughts and ideas and come up with a clear and specific outline. I would use concept mapping and Inspiration weekly if not daily in my classroom. I like the idea of using concept maps to organize a student's thoughts at the end of the class day. When students leave school, they often go home and say that they don't remember what they've learned, when in reality they've probably learned a huge amount of information, they just don't have it organized in their minds. By using concept maps, students can sort out what they learned during the day and therefore have a clearer purpose and meaning for having spent 8 hours in a classroom. By using the computer visually, students won't even think they are doing schoolwork. Visually learning is fun and interactive and gets the students motivated! I love it!
I think concept mapping is a great way to get your students more involved in their learning experience. Many students are visual learners, so by working with concept maps they will better understand the material. I will use this program in my class in the future. It teaches kids to have fun while being organized and professional.
By using concept mapping in the classroom, students are actively engaged in their learning. As teachers, it is important we incorporate multi-sensory teaching strategies as each students learns differently. Concept mapping is a wonderful tool and the opportunities for use in the classroom are endless. Students can organize and sort information learned during the day in a meaningful and rememberable way. It also allows for students to make connections. By using concept mapping, teachers can activate prior knowledge, it can serve as a tool to gain student attention, serve as a study guide, pre-writing tool, guide for teacher expectations regarding projects and assignments...and many more. I will use concept mapping in my classroom. I think it is an excellent tool to enhance student learning and I look forward to using it in my classroom.
First I would like to say that I wish that Inspiration was around when I was in Elementary school; this tool is amazing for not only helping organizational skills for visual learners, but outline learners too! I believe that visual learning is such a great way to enhance learning especially the visual/technology approach. I would love to use the Inspiration Program in my future classroom. I was so excited about the program; I introduced Inspiration to a student that I tutor! It seems that a teacher can use this technology for various areas, teachers who have been in the field prior to this tool need to be informed of how such a technological advancement can change student’s views about a task. This process makes learning fun and interactive for the class!
I am in Cierra's position too! I am a visual learner and I think that many learners in the primary grades need to be introduced to the various ways that learning can occur. Students need to be comfortable with all learning styles and this technology will help students do just that!
I feel that concept mapping would help out everyon invloved in the enviroment because concempt mapping allows people to get all of their ideas out and then start on the topic and try to make it more specific. I really liek to learn things visually so this woudl definately help me alot because then it could see eveything spead out and i would definately learn the material better.
I would have my class use concept mapping for just about anything they could think of. This tool is great in many different ways and I think that it can go just as far as the classes imagination can go on how to use it. Visual learning is one that most people are drawn to and I think that teachers need to keep that in mind so that they can stimulate learning in all students.
Many of you have said that you really liked the idea of including visual learning, and concept mapping into your classroom, but you feel that it helps as a teacher to see where the kids ideas are going? and to make sure that they are connecting the right ideas to the right concepts?
I would use concept mapping in my classroom to help my students brainstorm ideas. This could help them think more about what they are learning, and teach me what they know about the topic. This woud be a good introduction. Visual learning is extremely important. Kids learn in different ways. Giving them something to look at, whether it be an example or even notes This could help a child out so much. If the child is not a visual learner this could give them more of practice about the topic.
I know that I am a visual learner and I am sure that I will have many students in my class who are also visual learners. I would like to incorporate concept mapping and the patterns feature with kidspiration into my classroom. I think the kidspiration is great for elementary classrooms because of all the things you can do with them.
I love visuals!! I also think that concept maps allow student the freedom to let their thoughts flow without worrying about sentence structure or composition or anything that would stop the flow of ideas. A good way to use concepts maps would be for problem solving, and also to generate writing topics.
Concept mapping could be used in a classroom in countless ways. Two major uses that come to mind are for organizing thoughts for a paper and to outline notes on a certain subject. I know that as a student, i have used concept mapping in both of these ways and it has really helped me out because i am a visual learner. Seeing the main points helps me to understand and remember the material.
I like the idea of integrating concept maps into the classroom. Not only is it excellent for visual learners, but it allows the teacher to assess their students in so many ways. One of them being is that a student can connect information and concepts that they have learned and concepts maps also allow students to brainstorm in an organized manner. It can be essential when students are trying to brainstorm for a paper, and concept maps can really help a studnet out.
I think visual learning is one of the best ways to keep students involved! Also, getting used to these websites, I have learned that they can even make the teachers life a whole lot easier! You can even make maps with students and enhance participation. There are so many creative ways to use visual learning, and I think the students will appreciate the change from lectures and workbooks.
Any type of organizer (such as concept mapping)is of benefit to students because a lot of the time they are given very raw information and not told what to do with it. With concept mapping they are able to manipulate the data and organize it into logical thought and gain a better understanding!
I love the idea of concept mapping. Using academic software such as Inspiration is a great way to help students map our their ideas and brainstorm. Concept mapping is also a great way to summarize topics in a textbook. Students can use concept mapping just as much as teachers. Also, the teacher and students can use them together to get ideas for projects so that the students will have a say in what they want to do. Also, visual learning is a great way to enhance the learning. I think that a lot of students are visual learners and having this will help them a lot. It will also help students who like to be really organized, and students that are scatterbrained now have a way to get all of their ideas out in an organized manner so they can work on their assignments better.
